A London bank worker counts out euro bank notes as the first notes arrive in Britain’s high street banks, 20 days before they become legal tender across most of Europe, December 12, 2001. The new notes, to be launched on January 1, 2002, will be available in 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 denominations. Britain, however, is retaining its sterling currency as its main tender while much of Europe will adopt the new currency fully at the start of next year. BANKG REUTERS/Russell Boyce RUS/ASA – RTRQ96Y
